How Builds Work: Styles, Zombie Skills and Body Hack

A practical framework for combining temporary Styles, run-based Zombie Skills and permanent Body Hack gear without relying on fake tier lists.

What counts as a build?

A build is not a fixed character class selected at the start. It is the combination of Body Hack equipment you bring from the mall, the two monster Styles you find and keep during the dive, and the Zombie Skills offered as Davy levels.

That makes every build partly planned and partly improvised. You control the equipment foundation; the dungeon controls which forms and skill choices appear.

Start with a job, not a tier list

Before comparing parts, decide what the setup needs to do. Useful jobs include:

  • reaching airborne enemies;
  • clearing groups quickly;
  • creating a safe answer at mid-range;
  • recovering energy;
  • bursting a boss during short openings;
  • moving out of ground hazards without losing pressure.

Two items can both look strong and still make a poor pair if they solve the same easy problem. The Wyvern page is a good example: a ground-only setup may feel powerful until the target refuses to stay in reach.

Build the permanent layer first

Body Hack covers Davy’s left arm, right arm, head and legs. The left arm can alter his moveset, and demonstrated gear such as Blast Jumper adds both movement and area damage. Those changes are available across Davy’s forms, which makes them the foundation of a build rather than an attachment to Zombie Style.

Our Body Hack guide explains the system and where Acelino manages OT Gear.

Add Styles that cover different situations

Davy always has Zombie Style and can store two extra monster Styles during a run. A balanced pair is usually more useful than two forms competing for the same range and target type.

For example, a mid-range form can keep working while a boss disengages, leaving the second slot for close-range burst or crowd control. The actual best pairing will depend on which Styles appear and how the current Body Hack setup changes Davy’s options.

The Style Eat guide lists all 11 official forms without assigning an unsupported pre-release ranking.

Let Zombie Skills bend the plan

Zombie Skills are offered through receipts when Davy reaches certain levels in the dungeon. Bessie Burger can unlock skills and improve rarity, affecting the pool of choices that may appear.

Because those offers happen during the run, a good build guide should include pivot points: what to take when the preferred bonus does not appear, and which alternative keeps the setup functional. A list that requires one perfect sequence is a showcase, not a dependable build.

Why there is no “best build” yet

The full game has not launched, and there is no complete, verified table for OT Gear stats, skill rarity effects, damage formulas or boss resistances. Publishing a numerical top-ten list now would mostly reward confidence, not accuracy.

The First Bite demo gives us enough to explain the structure. Specific builds will be added after they can be repeated against the same encounter, on the same version, with the parts and choices recorded.
